Building the Community: DM Habens’ Social Value Report 25/26

At DM Habens The Builder Ltd, we don’t just build structures, we build communities. Every project we deliver is an opportunity to create a lasting positive impact on our people, local communities, and the environment.


Our 2025/2026 Social Value Report showcases how we’re putting this into action, focusing on three key areas:


1. Education & Upskilling

Investing in people is at the heart of building strong communities. Over the past year, we:

  • Supported 4 apprentices, providing 6,000 hours of practical training

  • Enabled 10 site managers and contracts managers to upskill to complete NVQ Level 6 & 7 qualifications, adding 3,600 hours of career development

  • Delivered careers days, school visits, and on-site mental health awareness initiatives, including on-site toolbox talks and engagement sessions

These efforts ensure our workforce is skilled, confident, and equipped to contribute to thriving local communities.


2. Environmental Responsibility

A healthy community depends on a healthy environment. Our initiatives include:

  • Beach litter cleans in support of Surfers Against Sewage

  • Introducing electric vehicles across our fleet

  • Embedding sustainable practices across all construction sites


3. Community Engagement & Charitable Support

We actively give back to the communities where we work:

  • Charitable contributions such as food bank donations, winter coat collections, grassroots football kits, and Christmas gift donations

  • Awareness campaigns and community talks promoting wellbeing, sustainability, and inclusion


Recognitions & Commitments

Our commitment to communities is recognised through:

  • Silver Armed Forces Covenant Award – supporting veterans and reservists

  • Disability Confident Employer Accreditation – championing inclusive recruitment and workplaces

  • Signatory of the Building Mental Health Charter – promoting mental health awareness and support
